WyleyBoy's pawfile blog

Do not stand at my grave and weep - I am not there.  I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow - I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain - I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there - I did not die.

In loving memory of Daisy Mae.  You live on in our hearts, sweet girl.

Each year, our local shelter has a fundraiser 5K called Tails and Trails.  They also have a silent auction, lots of vendor booths, crafts for kids, door prizes, food stalls, and all kinds of area rescues in attendance.  Our vet does low-cost shots and microchips, and sponsors put on a doggy pageant.  Last year, we raised enough money to start building a new shelter!

Momma and me beat the sun out of bed and got there early.  My aunt came, too, so we all got to poke around and socialize a bit before the 5K.

And we're off!  Lots of pooches of all shapes and sizes, all walking together to raise money to help more dogs!  I had THE biggest crush on this fancy poodle, but she didn't even give me the time of day no matter how hard I tried to get her attention!  Momma says it was for the best since such a fancy girl would probably be too high maintenance for us.

Daddy met us after the 5K with my sissy, Myrtle.  She's his hunting dog, so she doesn't get much socialization... but she did pawsome!

One of the local trainers set up an agility course and a rally-o course - me and momma couldn't resist!  Yes, it was teacup size, but we're both hooked!  We got to do both courses as many times as we wanted!  That wore us both out, so we chilled out on the porch and watched people bid at the silent auction.

It was a fun day, and I can't wait for the next one!

My Daddy is a very cool guy - he and I go on adventures, and he teaches me all kinds of new stuff.  Since I made fun of him in the pawfile about the socks, here's a nice one to save face BOL!

Me and Daddy like to do outdoor stuff, so he taught me how to run beside him while he rides his bike.  He also taught me how to ride in the kayak, so now I can go with him and Momma down the river!

We have fun at home, too.  He teaches me new tricks like how to sneak into a suitcase so I can try to go on trips.  We play hide and seek from Momma, too - he picks good hiding spots!  He told me if I sit really still and quiet, she'll walk right past me... and she did BOL!

My Daddy has a heart the size of Texas, but he won't own up to it.  He lets me snuggle with him when Momma's out of town.  We kick back in our recliner every night to watch TV and unwind.  Sometimes he even sneaks me some of his leftovers from dinner.  I love my Daddy!

You feed me when I'm hungry and keep water in my dish;
You let me sleep on anything, in any place I wish.

You sometimes let me lick your hands or even lick your face,

Despite the fact I've licked myself in every private place.

You taught me how to come when called; you taught me how to sit.

You always let me go outside so I can take a sh... stroll.

You'll always have my loyalty until the bitter end,

'Cause after all, it's plain to see you are this dog's best friend!

So Daddy got in a bad habit of leaving his drawers open recently.  Momma warned him and warned him to close his drawers, but he didn't listen.  She always shut his drawers for him every morning, but one morning she forgot!

I love socks!!!  Tube socks, crew socks, toe socks... white socks, black socks, colorful socks... cotton socks, wool socks, fuzzy socks... I love 'em all!  Socks on the floor, socks on the treadmill, socks on the bed, socks in the window, socks on the dresser.  It was like Christmas - a whole drawer full of clean socks, just for me!!!  Glorious day!!!Momma was elsewhere wondering why the house got so quiet... what was my little self up to anyway?...

Momma laughed too hard to even be mad at me - she did warn Daddy several times, after all!  She let me play all day with my drawer full of socks (love you, Momma)!

When Daddy got home from work, he tried to make me help pick up all the socks.  The nerve!  I helped all right - I picked up the socks that were still folded, and I shook 'em so hard they flew opposite directions!  Daddy ended up picking up the whole drawer of socks.  Now Daddy is very careful to always close his sock drawer before he leaves for work in the morning! ;)

Last summer, I got to take my pawrents to the Texas Rangers' "Bark in the Park" day!  They do it every year for pups who want to take their humans to a game, and it is super fun!  Here is me and Daddy when we arrived at the ballpark.  We got there early so we could park close and check out all the fun stuff inside!

I got a goodie bag full of treats and coupons and samples and a toy!  It was super hot (gotta love that Texas summer heat!), so we stayed in the shade and watched the Rangers warm up.  Here's me cheesing for Momma.

Once the game started, we went to our seats (I had my own chair!) to watch.  It was HOT!!!  Me and Momma made several trips to the splash pools set up for us dogs, and it's a good thing we brought lots of water!  Here's me giving "ballpark hot dog" a whole new meaning BOL!

A few hits landed in the green next to our section.  I volunteered to fetch the baseballs, but Daddy said I probably ought to stay with him and just enjoy watching the game.

I was such a good boy that Momma and Daddy shared their snacks with me!  I wolfed down the pretzel from Momma before she could take a picture, but she got one of my first cotton candy experience!  YUMMY!!!

It was a great day - the Rangers won despite the heat, and much fun was had by all!  I got to swim, parade around the bases, make lots of new furiends, eat new yummy things, and get all kinds of loot!  Funny thing, though, I don't even remember the drive home...
